Well Care Health is rooted in family values and has proudly been family-owned and operated for over 37 years. In 1987, Tanya Long, a passionate, hard-working social worker, and her husband, an experienced business professional, Wayne Long, founded Well Care & Nursing Services, Inc. in Wilmington, North Carolina. Well Care was small but mighty, a privately owned, Medicaid-licensed home care agency with less than 100 employees – but it was already on its way to success. Fast forward thirteen years, and Well Care built a reputation for providing compassionate, convenient, and, most importantly, high-quality home healthcare. This success prompted the purchase of New Hanover Home Health, a Medicare-certified agency, from New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Eventually, both organizations were renamed to reflect their ownership and services provided. Well Care & Nursing Services, Inc. became Well Care Home Care, and New Hanover Home Health was renamed Well Care Home Health. The following 22 years would not surprisingly see Well Care growing at a phenomenal speed and expanding services from the Cape Fear area to the Triangle, Triad, Piedmont, and beyond.

Today Well Care Health is one of the top home healthcare providers in the country. Tanya and Wayne Long’s dream of helping others may have had humble beginnings, but it is now a thriving organization with almost 950 employees serving over 20,000 patients annually across the Carolinas. Well Care now has two essential clinical divisions, Well Care Home Health and Well Care Hospice. It is a preferred home healthcare provider and consistently receives five-star patient care quality ratings while keeping our communities healthy, happy, and at home!
